Anybody running an STP oil filter in a 4.6L or 5.4L?
Last week at AutoZone, I purchased an STP S2 oil filter for my wife's '97 Expedition 4.6L. AZ had their STP oil filters Free-After-Rebate, & I'm a sucker for a freebie.
The STP S2 is an E-core filter (plastic center tube instead of metal, etc.)
Are any of you guys using an STP oil filter on your 4.6L or 5.4L engines?
If so, what is your opinion of it?
Thanks in advance,
WW

I haven't used one yet but I bought an STP S2 and a SuperTech ST 2 which are both Ecore filters for my V10. Both are made by Champion Labs. I'm going to put one on at the next oil change to see how it does. There have been some good words about the Ecore on this forum. Do an Ecore search. I'll let you know how mine turn out.

I am not sure about using the E-Core.
Russel Knize, the guy that is somewhat famous for his filter studies has updated his site and added his findings about the E-Core.
Heres a link about the E-Core:

So, the good part is that the bypass valve is now on the same end as Motorcraft, otherwise the E-core design seems not as good as older Champ Labs (STP) filters. AC Delco look like the same E-core filter also.
Bosch is no longer made by Champ, since the Germans bought Purolator. My own limited "filter study", based on the most common Toyota application, shows Japanese-made Denso as the most impressive filter I have ever cut open. However, Toyota dealer USA Denso filters look identical to Purolator Premium Plus. Current Bosch appear to be identical to Purolator Premium Plus.

I have used the E-Core on both my F250 and Crown Vic for over 100K miles total with no problems. I cut open and inspect everyone of my filters and the E-Cores show no issues with either the media, fiber end caps or the plastic cage center tube.
I only recently went to a Wix made filter because of good deal on a case of them and not due to any reasons of the E-Core design.
