Car Rental Insurance

Any thoughts on wether to buy the insurance from the rental company or just skip it . The insurance is nearly as much as the rental fee.

It's an easy way for them to make money, unless you get in an accident or damage the vehicle somehow, then you wish you would have bought it. 50/50 shot, take your pick.

Your car insurance should cover the rental. Check with your agent to make sure.

I drove rental cars every week for 16 years, never took the insurance, never put a scratch on a car. My credit card had an insurance provision for rental cars.

Check with your insurance agent.

That C-Card setup sounds good if it works. It may be one of those "only on the fourth Tuesday of a month under a full moon between the hours of 1:00AM and 1:03AM..." type deals. Nearly impossible to collect on.

I just got a rental the other day when my own car was in the shop. I had no idea what to do, so I thought, you know what, I'll get it just in case. Well, I did. I was being covered by my insurance company for the rental, so I didn't have to pay anything except for the rental insurance. When I talked to the woman handling my claim, she said that I shouldn't have because I was covered under them and could've spent nothing and been fine.

BE careful, if you dont carry collision insurance on your own car you may not have it on rentals either. Call before you rent..

There's only one time when you want to buy rental insurance: when you're in KC for the FTE rally. Then, you want all the insurance you can get your hands on!

Personally I've noticed that Chevy drivers seem to be the worst of the bunch. So if you ever need it, I'd recommend at any kind of GM convention/rally.

It's a funny thing, insurance. Glad you found what you were looking for.

When I rented a car for my buddy, insurance wasn't needed, because we were in the same province. Asking for a license, from both of us, we both had "Road Star" so insurance was automatically waived or something like that.

But when my wife and I were in Hawaii, insurance was optional, which we got anyway. ICBC wouldn't have covered us in Hawaii either. For the $20 it cost us, yeah, we threw it away, but we could have been worse off too.
