Knock sensor

My nephew blew the engine in his 98 f150 (rod thru block) and bought a wrecked 93 police car. Both have the 4.6 Romeo engine but after stripping them down found that the 93 does not have a knock sensor. The truck has the sensor in the valley. Will the 93 engine work in the 98 truck w/o the knock sensor?
thanks,
jim

The PCM will be looking for the knock sensor. I believe that it needs to be there for proper performance.

Thanks for replying. He may have to weld a nut in the bottom of the valley in order to install the sensor if it will clear the manifold.
