Anyone used Kumho Venture MT's???
No one answered my post on the Trxus, so I am gonna ask on my runner up... I was wondering if anyone had any experience with these Kumho Venture MT's. They rated high on Tire rack - leading the MT tires in treadware, and light snow traction, while being up there on everythign else too. I am looking for a light mud tire that will be good road manners on a dialy driver. It'll see muddy farm fields, mostly in hunting season, along with snow. I dont mind AT tires, and am almost ready to buy the terra grappler at's. But I really want something that will self clean to get through the slick stuff. The Kumho's have that aggressive outer lugs that are staggered, but are a little smaller and more closely spaced than most MT's so that should make em better on the road and trail. Also the centers have more of an AT design. Are they the best all around light mud/at tire? I want to get a tire localy and for reasonable price. These can be had at discount tire, but they are still getting back to me on the price.

Ahh, I C. I went into the firestone master care center (i think it was called) because I had heard good things about the firestone destination mt's but for 285/75/16 they quoted $200 piece just for a tire! On tirerack its like $150, so I just kinda blew off that place. $150 is my max per tire unless I know the treadware is gonna be worth the extra money. Unfortunately the treadware is hard to come by. But maybe I'll check out this Timberline M/T and see if I cant get a local quote. Thanks for the advice.

i was going to get the firestone destination m/t's but the local dealer didnt have them on hand and they suggested hankook dynamic m/t's. he said they were the same and they were about $100 a tire for 31x10.50s compared to 120 or so for the destination mts. i am happy with them. they are a little noisy but that is to be expected for a mud tire i suppose. i have never had any experience with trxxus m/ts but from what i heard i think they are quieter and wear better. i think i will get the trxxus's the next time i need a mud tire.

I have Kumho Venture HT's on my stock wheels. I'm happy with them, and at $90 apiece for Load Range E 16" tires, I'm pretty happy with the deal I got from TireRack. No complaints about the tire, though I've only had them for about 5k miles so far. Not sure how different they are to the MT's, other than tread pattern of course.

BTW, did you check Discount Tire's price on Kuhmo's? That's where I just purchased my XL's for my van last month and they had them in stock. I don't see that model online but you've got enough Discounts around Columbus that you can call them and if they don't have them, they usually can get them in 24 hours. I once got some Hoosiers from them and they don't carry them but had them in and installed by the next day. They'll beat other's prices too. I had a Cooper tire picked out at the local Firestone and had just the tire price. Discount put the Kumho's XL tires installed for the same price as the Cooper's tire only price.
Also for those that don't know, Discount will repair fixable blown tires for free even if you didn't buy them there. They do it to drum up business.

The best place to buy tires from is from a tire shop sure you pay a little more but atleast if you have problems you can go back and they will warrentee or repair it. I pretty much deal with one tire shop on a regular basis they get to know you and get better service etc.
I looked at 1010 tires when I was looking for Michelins the local tire shop wanted 220 each 1010 wanted 209 only a 11 dollar difference per tire. I was looking for 2 tires I would have saved 22 dollars and spent 31 dollars in shipping. Once you got the tires nobody will mount them because another tire shop won't mount (new) tires you got from somewhere else. The local service station will mount them but you are on a when they have time they will do them basis.
All I use those online tire sites for is ball park prices and the reviews other than that you loose money if you buy from them their price isn't low enough to justify it.

Thanks guys for the continued advice. I am pretty set on buying my tires at discount tire. They finally got back to me with some quotes. The Kumho Venture MT 285/75/r16 was like $140 but I think I might go with the new Cooper Discovery STT at $145 for the same. I think discount tire also affored free replacemtn for like $20/tire unconditional and not pro-rated for milleage. SOunds too good to be true? Heres a pic of the coopers:

I actually have a set of the Kuhmos MTs on my 1993 Bronco, and I like them. However, I don't have anything to compare them too, as this is my first set of MT tires. But, they are wearing in nice (i.e. the road noise is lessening, but the tread is maintianing lifewear) the handling at 80+mph is ok, the only thing is it tends to get a little squirrelly under hard breaking. the front end tends to wish-wash a little.
I can correct it with a little tug on the steering wheel this way or that, but other than that the off-road capability is spectacular, and the on-road manners are good.
Just my 2 cents

I actually bought the Kuhmo MT's about 3 weeks ago, maybe 4 now. I am pretty happy. I got 285x75 r16 and they have some road noise but not nearly as much as my swamper tsl's. The total increase in weight for all 4 tires in rims is 80 lbs though, (20 a piece) and my milleage has dropped probably 10 or 15 % atleast. They have handled trail and light mud very well compared to my old at's but havent got em in the really slick stuff yet although I dont expect em to perform as well as swampers but I think they should handle anything I will go through going hunting and camping etc.
