Question How do I clean out my heat ducts?

Hey everyone...the other morning on the way to work, I tested the heat in my '76 F-250 just to see how it would do in the cab, etc. VERY WARM...wow...they didn't lie when they said these things could put out heat but there was one issue. After running it for a minute or so...it started to smell really bad like burnt grass. (The truck was a lawn truck that has grass in places you didn't think it could get!) I looked over across the cab and it was dusty/smoky in the cabin. There was no fire but It smelled like the grass was being super heated and it was giving off dust, and other stuff. It has to be trapped in the ducts somehow. How would everyone recommend cleaning out these ducts? This is one of those things I need to get done before fall! Thanks for your help!

I took the fan out from inside the engine compartment. Reached in and took out a lot of stuff then flused it with water then air and cleaned mine up. Only took a few minutes.

Thanks for the reply but at the expense of sounding like a complete idiot....how would you do that? I thought the fan was INSIDE the cab not the engine compartment. I haven't poked around too much behind the dash so I'm not really sure what to remove, etc. Can I remove all the ducting from the inside of the cab and clean it that way? How may screws and clips are we taling about? I'm just not sure how to go about it. Sorry...but If I could get a little more detail..that would be great! Thanks!

It should be screwed to the firewall from the engine compartment. Remove it and the resistor, pull any large debris out of the air handler and blast away with a hose. As long as you have A/C there is a drain in the bottom of the air handler. If there is no drain, you should be able to use a shop-vac.
