Not sure what to do but the price of gas is groce, tried a 04 jetta TDI and was actually impressed, but the real question is can I trade the blue oval for a VW?? the jetta gets average 60 mpg and a high as 68 truck 18-23 what do I do??? not sure what the reliabillity of VW are but Ill have to take a long hard look.
Sure you can. If you dont' need to haul crap around you shouldn't have a truck anyway
I have a 96 Passat GLSSC that gets about 18 around town which is better than the 13 I get in the truck. Downside: my $20k truck gets used only once or twice a week.
keep them both the truck for hualing things and the vw for gas milage, I have my truck that gets around 17 and I need it for hauling things and I use a 93 tyota paseo for back and fourth to work it gets about 40 mpg.
Keep the truck, they do come in handy. Try and find an older TDI, maybe around the 00-01 mark, they really are a great car, we use the wifes jetta for long trips, incredible fuel economy.
I Was Going To Get A Tdi Until I Was Warned About The High Cost Of Maintanence. Everything Is Expensive And Labor Intensive!!
Yup I checked into that as well and it scared me off. I cant believe the maint on those things plus all the extreem expence, dont think the great gass milage equalls out to the unbelievable maint on those, might look at a mazda3 for a second car now.
Maybe convert the F-150 to bi-fuel propane or CNG? Ford made factory bi fuel and dedicated propane/cng F-150s and light-duty 250s a while back, you could look around for one.
I have a 1980 Golf VW and the odometer stop two years ago at 200k and we have had very little problems with it. I would say less problems then my F150 will less km and newer. But I do need the truck for hauling, but otherwise I drive the VW and Ihave been able to fix it so far. Good luck on your choice.
