2005 Y-block Shoot Out!!!!!!!

OK, For those of you who werent there it was GREAT! I think there was 23 cars and trucks running with Y's. I must say I had a ball!

I arrived in Columbus, Ohio on friday morning and there were some track problems (Oil, wrecks etc.) and was only able to get one time trial in and my truck is slow! I think I ran a 18.22.

I drove back friday night to Akron. In the morning me and my brother set out fo Columbus. When I arrived all the Y-block powered cars were in the lanes for a time trial so off I went. Truck ran terrible! 18.70 I smelled gas and upon inspection the rear carb (I'm running 2X4's) was leaking at the fitting bad! Lucky it didnt catch fire. I fixed the leak and run another time and I ran a 18.10 I think better but not great.

Long story short I made it to the final round where I ran a 17.40 and broke out (lost) as I was dialed in at 17.55.

I really put the test to the Y as I had no cool down time inbetween the last 3 rounds. The air was cooling off and it was dark outside. It ran better with every pass.

My Y-block is a 1957 ECZ 292 bored .060. G heads, Sanderson LONG tube headers, edelbroc 257 2X4 intake, roller timing set, 1.54 ratio rockers, erson cam .520 lift and 296 duration 108 centerline, 13 pound aluminum flywheel. All this is in a 1956 ford truck and I made it to the final round with the
"3 on the TREE" and an "open" rear end!

Thanks for the report Kevin. Glad you had a great time. Maybe we will see your picture in Y-block Mag. What/Who ended up being the fastest at the event?

It was a 4 door 57 ford that won. We both broke out in the final just mine was worse than his. I knew it was running better, but that last pass I spun a long way in first gear so I stayed in it all the way to the finish.

great job kevin; i left sat. night so i didn't get to see the finals. i did get to take gary croan's road race 55 t-bird down the track for a photo opp. .030 over 312, 4v, 4 sp, 3.73 rears. it wasn't his race motor, just a .030 stock 312 for touring, we ran a 15.70 and it felt great. an open car with a 4in wind screen, it really felt like you were going a lot faster, and the sound was great. i hope to have my 63 shortbed ready for next year, wayne.
