does a truck have to have windows in it to be legal? im thinking about ditchin as much as posiible weight wise, and windows would be quite of few pounds of weight to shed. im thinin bout dropin the tanks, interior, windows, and whatever else. anybody got any thoughts on this, and still bein road legal?

So you legally can't just wear aviator goggles? I knew a guy that did that in an old LeSabre - had vise grips for a steering wheel too..not the smartest guy. Anyhow, think about a convertible, only glass they have is the windshield. If you still wanted too keep some cold air out, you could replace the side and back glass with plexi. If it is too thin it will tend to bow with the air pressure difference and blow out though. This just doesn't seem like the time of year I'd want to have big open holes in my cab.

well, it was just a thought, figured that it be kinda cool to have it completly stripped to the bone, run some straight pipes, have enough room in the engine bay to sit in, and the only extra thing id have is heat, but not sure yet.

well ask yourself this (or answer it for the rest of us) whats your purpose with this truck? If it's competition only then why worry about windows, and if your gonna run straight pipes then I beleive your missing windows will be the least of the worries for the cops.
My ranger is stripped pretty much, I even took the second layer of sheet metal out of the head liner, and took the rear window out, got rid of all the radiator support, hood latch, hood bracing, and fender bracing, and built a square tube frame to hold the fenders on, and use pins to hold the hood on.
I am thinking of removing the side windows, and regulators this year too you would be suprised how much wieght that is then I will just cover the door panel with some thin sheet alum to cover up any sharp edges. I am also going to remove some of the inner bed panels, remove the front cross member, and replace with tubing. Cut another 3" of the front of the frame and about another 5 off the rear.

i dont think the pipes is a big problem around here, my 83 c10 is runnin true dual on 1.5 inch piping, not deep rumbly, screamin loud, never had a problem. ive got my 89 2wd, so weve been driving it, so i want to turn the 89 into somthin special. got a dana 44 straight on the way, and a 60 rear. its got roll bar, tube bumpers, flatbed, so i figure id go all the way out, and do it right. the only thing i want to do is keep it just enough to be road legal, incase i ever have to take it somewhere, muddin or whatnot, and dont have the trailer available.

Been my experience that how strict your local police are is the biggest factor. I do know that legally you do need a windshield, because I used to get pulled over all the time back when I would try to drive my 73 Bronco with the windshield folded down. You might get by if you even removed your doors- some of the guys in my club drive their rigs occasionally on the street without doors and seem to get away with it.

That makes me look like a safety expert. That guy sounds like he's headed for a Darwin Award!

Hopefully before he can/could pass those gene's on into the gene pool but alas most of those types of idiots are usually pretty prolific too since they aren't smart enough to figure out what any type of birth control is.

I thought it was legal to run without doors as long as you had proper belts. How about CJ's with no doors?

As for the vise-grip guy. I don't even remember his name, he worked as a hired hand with us one summer. I doubt he could stay out of jail long enough to procreate anyhow. I think the crow bar marks all over the car showed up about the same time the windows disapeared... we never did have the ***** to ask how it all happened.

i never considered the no door option. sounds like it could be fun. chop half the top, rip teh doors off, run a cage and 5 points, but its got to move first.
