engine "ting" sound

when driving from a cold start, or parking after a long drive. the engine makes a tinging sound every 5-30 seconds... is this normal? is this just the engine warming up/cooling down?

I don't get the ting sound when I start it cold, but after the truck is hot and I shut it down it makes the ting sound you are talking about. It almost sounds like it is coming from the catalytic converters or something in that area. I have never had any problems with it and my guess is it is just the metal cooling bc it doesnt have the hot exhaust gases flowing through it anymore.

Yes, the converters and heat shields will make a popping / tinging sound during heat up / cool down cycles.
Nuthin' to worry about.
