My 86 has the same code and the 3 00 is also on the tag too. Now does this rearaxle affect the gas mileage one would get.
For my truck really sucks. I'm lucky to get 10 mile per gallon, it is more like 6 right now. I have had it in the shops three times over the past year since I bought the truck and they cannot find anything wrong mechanically. The carb checks out good and everything is up to par. I have had twice been suggested that the rear axle can affect the gas mileage.
The other thing is that the truck does not take off at the lights too well. I step on the gas (not tromp) and the motor seems to rev like crazy and yet evryone pulls away from me.
So could all this be the rearend. I been told to get a higher ratio in and it should help the mileage.
I have an 85 and it has a 3.85 I think and it gets me in the high teens and low 20's. The motor is currently just been rebuilt and ready to be put back in.
Just the 86 is a nice rust free low milage truck, never been in an accident. Interior is excellent shape. Due to gas mileage it is now up for sale.
