I'm not sure how much time is left in the season, so wish me luck.

First thing I need to do is till up the garden again and set up some kind of a weed barrier.

How long does it take to grow to maturity? I thought it was something like 60 days...

My great grandfather raised tobacco, the family helped with it, no pesticides, my grandmother recalls picking off the bugs, cutting and curing as a child.

I've never grown tobacco. Its a tough weed to grow from what I've heard. It takes lots of minerals from the soil too.
