Should I take off my cat?

hey im putting on a new exhaust system this weekend with a flowmaster 40 series muffler but i don't have headers on yet.I was wondering how loud the 40 series will be without headers?if it's not that loud then maybe i should take off the cat?what does the cat do anyway?you dont really need that thing right?maybe true duals with make it sound better right?that would mean two 40 series mufflers = more sound.
