Found viabration.................maybe!

Been trying to find what I think is a driveshaft viabration, so today I got under the '73 for a while and found the following: The first thing is a loose pinion in the rear. Well, it's not really loose (I can't shake it by hand from the outside) but it turns maybe some 15 degrees each way before it's teeth hit the teeth on the ring gear. Well, that ain't right, so I guess I'll have to pull the pumpkin and reset the ring gear adjusters.

But also, I found that the bearing carrier between the two sections of the driveshaft is a bit loose (loose enough that I can see and feel the back shaft move if I jerk it around. It appears that the rubber surround is a bit loose in it's frame. Can this rubber be replaced, or must the whole bearing assembly be replaced??

I'm almost certain that these two things are causing or adding to the viabration, but what do ya'll think? Thanks, Polkat

Keep at it. I think I would replace the carrier bearing first.
