Is it ok to switch to synthetic oil
I have a 95 psd which have owned for almost one year now. My last oil change i used Shell Rotella non synthetic. I have 133k miles on it and i do not know if previous owners used synthetic oil. I would like to try synthetic for the colder weather and extended oil changes. How many miles can you go on synthetic befor oil changes and is ok to switch with this many miles
Thanks

i too run amsoil. i just bought the truck at an auto auction, knowing NOTHING about it. so i decided to change over to synthetic. took 14.x quarts, i would recommend getting 16 or so. i used the amsoil filter too. $100 for 15 qts and filter, not bad. the dealer told me i can run as much as 25,000 miles between changes if its easy driving, not trailering or anything. but the minumum recommended change interval is 3 times normal castor oil life. i have also steadily seen my mileage go up (less then one tank) from 15.9 to 16.7.

What did you pay for that truck at auction and is the bad milage just from being a new driver and sticking your foot in it to often? I understand Im 16 to.

i stole it for $23,700. not bad, considering its cherry. the dealer priced it out as $9k under retail. really good deal. the mileage isnt from my heavy foot, i dont have my license yet (*learners permit) so i have to drive everywhere with my parents. i have to drive semi-conservatively because i dont want them to freak out. its a crew cab, i have the kwik filter (decreased MPG by about 1.2, dont know how but i can live with it. im getting exhaust at my house hopefully this week, that should increase it some. also, i have new tires, they are 265's and they are somewhat more aggressive then stock. they arent a mudder or a off road tire by any means. i dont know where the mileage comes from either.
