Exhaust systems For 7.3L non turbos

Hey guys, i am looking for exhaust system for my f-350 but i dont wanna pay that much for it, i here banks sells the stinger system for 750? Whats so special about it seriously it isnt made out of any special kind of metal right ? What exhuast system do you run and that arent to expensive? I really want to put one on but dont wanna spend $750 for it so please post exhuast systems and there makers + plus the price thanks Jmac.

Go to a muffler shop that can do 3" pipe and have them build you one.
If you start with each downtube from the manifolds each dumping into the three inch pipe it will gain some power and torque from being able to breathe easier.
The stock exhaust on the diesels is way to small.

Several years ago I had one done for mine for 200 dollars. With inflation and the increase in steel prices I would guess it to cost about 350 these days. If you can stand a louder exhaust, use the see thru type low restriction muffler for the best gains in power.

I personally have 3" stacks on mine, I have about 300 dollars in them.
My neighbor has a muffler shop, and we made everything past the turbo downpipe.

The Banks system along with ATS and several others use mandrel bent pipe which does flow better, but 450 dollars better?
Also the premade systems will be install and clamp assembly with all the hardware. You should be able to install it with minimal tool requirements.

Check out the Auto-Jet website. http://www.mandrelbending-tubefabric...ightduty_3.gif. They build 3" mandrel-bent systems for the 6.9 and 7.3 Ford/IHC NA motors. A complete system, shipped to my door is going to run just under $300.

so is the y-pipe 3" also if so 300.00 is a real good price.

have you personaly used it?

unless the manifolds were changed, 3" at the manifolds still will be restricted, due to the size of the manifolds themselves. Also, doesn't do a lot of good to increase to 3" at the manifold to only go into a 3" after the y...

well with all the bends a y-pipe has to begin with ,i'm sure bigger would be better

it would be better to go to headers than even keep the y-pipe in that case. The pipes still have to bolt to the factory mainifolds, which will still require the smaller hookups, and still be a restriction all the same. I saw quite an increase by still using the original y-pipe, but changing the pipe it dumps into to a 3.25 pipe. 3" is overkill unless you have the pipe they dump into larger as well. 2.5 might make a difference, but headers would be the best.

I just put my true dual 3" exhaust on myself with just a mig welder and a chop saw for just over $100. I have 3" from the manifold back through flowmaster 40s up to 5" stacks in the bed. Sounds pretty good but doesnt deafen you in the cab. Suits me pretty well.

I agree on the manifolds, need help

Running a 1985 6.9L and am building my own 4" system, but am really concerned about the manifolds as factor manifolds are usually crap.

I realize that there are very few mods for the 6.9, but does anyone have any idea where I could locate some better flowing manifolds.

There are some on the Auto Krafter's site that claim to fit those 83-87, "without holes for thermactor tubes", but they make no mention of whether they are for gas or diesel. Can anyone help?

Check out Stan's Headers - they make a header set for the NA 6.9/7.3.

Brace yourself, because it's expensive! Also check the archives to see what kind of results folks have had from various exhaust mods. Since diesel engines don't need (or even like) exhaust system back pressure, _anything_ that improves flow helps both performance and fuel mileage. One guy ceramic coated the stock manifolds and noticed a difference; others have gone to duals, oversize singles, straight-thru mufflers, turbo mufflers, no mufflers. What you end up doing is going to depend on your pocket book, your ambition level, and your future plans for the truck. For me, that's a 3" system. Depending on family commitments at the time, I'll either build it myself, or purchase the entire kit from Auto-Jet. Later, when I add the turbo kit, I'll eliminate the Y-pipe, and simply hook up the 3" turbo down pipe to the 3" system. The only part that will be 'wasted' will be the Y-pipe. In the meantime, I'll have a system that lets my engine breathe far better than it does now, and doesn't blow me out of the cab with high noise levels.
