Question Ranger 2.0 round port head volume?

Does anybody know off had what the chamber volume is for the Ranger 2.0 head? How about the round 2.3 head? Also what manifolds are available for these engines? Are they 2 barrels or only 1 barrel carbs?

The round port 2.3L head is in the neighborhood of 58-62cc. They have the same combustion chambers as the turbo heads and probably net a 9.0:1 CR with flat top pistons. Later 2.3L heads give about a 9.2:1 CR.

2.3L engines up until 1981-82 used a 2 barrel manifold. Everything after that uses the Carter 1V carb.

2.0 cc's?

Does anyone know if the Mustang 1v 2.3 are round port or is it just the Rangers? I heard a rumor that they were all round if they had a 1v, and I would like to confirm.

Also I'm looking for head cc's to see if I can use it instead of the 2.3 for my application.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

83-84 Mustang 1v heads may have been round port. I'm not exactly certain as to when they switched to the D-port heads. 85 and 86 Mustangs definately used 1v carbs with D-port heads, at least according to the shop manuals I've looked at.

What are you needing a head for? Rumor is that the D-port heads flow better than the oval ports, but most of the non-turbo D-ports were the "heart" shaped combustion chambers opposed to the open turbo style chambers.

High Compression

I'm thinking of using the 2.0 for high compression and flow. I've seen some porting data that shows the round port heads really flow after porting:

Lift..0.100 .200 .300 .400 .450 .500 .550 .600 .650 .700

OVAL PORT:

I.....63..122..179..218..229..236..244..240..240.. 237

E....55..110..154..181..192..194..199..201..203..2 04

D-PORT:

I.....64..126..183..220..230..236..239..238..237.. 233

E....54..109..151..174..181..187..192..194..197..1 99

RANGER (round port):

I.....64..131..192..229..241..252..256..254..255.. 256

E....60..123..174..196..203..208..209..211..214..2 15

The round port head was used only in the rangers. There never was a "turbo head" made. The only difference between the turbo engines were the cam, pistons, and the turbo oil return boss was drilled and tapped. The early 2.3s had oval ports with open combustion chambers. In 81 they went to the D port open chamber, and in 84 the D port with closed chambers, untill the late 80s when they came out with the 8 plug with open chamber and round ports. The manifold that can be used on the 81-86 round port ranger head is the early 2.0 2 barrel manifold with modifications.
