Post 1977 F250 4x4 Power Steering Cylinder

I have a 1977 F250 4x4 with power steering. The factory power steering cylinder is in place and does not appear to have any leaks. There is also another power steering cylinder connecting the pitman arm and spindle assembly. It's a bendix unit with 4 lines connected to it. I am assuming this is an aftermarket device as I can't find this part in any of my manuals. Was there a solid bar connecting the pitman arm and spindle from the factory? What is it called? Where can I get one?

I'm looking at my 1977 truck shop manual----Vol.#1---Chassis and the control valve is on page 13-23-8--if your manual is a 77 it is there---ford used this type of power steering system on the f250, 4x4 trucks for several model years------fd

Thanks for the reply! Is there a rebuild kit available for the Bendix unit? Can I get the pressure lines from Ford?

Any napa can duplicate the hydro lines if you take the old line in as a go-by!!!!I got this info from another post --this guy named Jim is supposed to be able to rebuild the whole system if you got lotsa bucks , so here it is---Independent Hydraulics , Lake Havasu City , arizonia , (928)854-1022------the guy who posted this said this person had completely rebuilt his system for 600 or so---I don't think ford has carried rebuild kits for these systems in several years......fd

Thanks for the NAPA info. I am thinking about changing the system to a 78-79 set-up. I have seen a few people suggesting this. What do you think!?

It is the system that replaced the slave cylinder style ps system and it is "ford" so I would use it if I was you---look in the Tech articles section and there is a description on how to make to make the conversion----fd
