2005 F-150 Drivetrain Slip + Jolt + BAM (not limited-slip)
Guys,
I've searched the archives and seen others are having similar trouble with their 2004/2005 F-150s EXCEPT for a couple of differences. First, mine has the standard axle, not the limited slip, which seems common in the other threads. I am also experiencing a couple of problem scenarios. I know the truck will not duplicate the problem when I take it in, so I wanted to go to the dealership as educated as possible. This is what my truck is doing:
1) When driving at a steady ~45 MPH and the throttle is lightly lifted then lightly reapplied, as if to maintain that speed, I always get a jolt or shiver through the drive train. I chalked this up to the drive-by-wire, but this will tear something up eventually.
2) When starting from a stop - in a straight line - I occasionally get a single or series of severe jolts through the drive train. These are harsh.
3) Similar to some of the other posts, when driving through my neighborhood, roughly 25 MPH, I will get a jolt through the drive train when reapplying the throttle during a turn. This feels like the transmission not choosing the optimal time to downshift, but also feels like a good opportunity for the truck to eventually self-destruct.
4) Only a couple of times, when putting the truck in both park and reverse, it acts as though the transmission is not engaging and it repeatedly jolts while creeping forward/backward.
Does anyone recognize this combination of symptoms? I appreciate any input as I am going to take her in in the next few days.
By the way, she is a 2005 F-150 SuperCab, with the 5.4L and automatic tranny. Transmission fluid levels and condition are normal.
Thanks,
Jeff
