Mine gives ME hope. I was laid off last May (09), the dicks thought it wuz good biz practice to challenge my unemployment compensation. It went on from then till Dec...0 income. Now I'm a soft handed desk jockey (no calluses, get it) n that lill' bob tail saved my butt. It skidded in logs for the band saw mill, jerked a Heavy safe (4X4X5') up an 8 ft wall n right outta some guy's basement! (granted it wuz on crete not dirt drive), pushed a lill dirt around landscapin, made my mortgage payment every sno (got bout 25 driveways on my st, n a gas station/mini mart on each end of the route) and on & on. I owe it, it don't owe me - it's paid it's way much bettern the wife ever did! N I threw her out, never the rig. Guys laugh @ it n ask me when I'll sell it (aint in 27 yrs) n when I'll put a real engine in it... soon as I get some $ to rebuild this '75 4.1 which seems 2 B outta a Grenade-a. Better stop here B 4 I let this roll I'm on B come a cascade.

Thanks 4 the support.
Iv actually had it rebuilt twice in the last 5 years, i actually have down to an art now, only pa and i can start it, i turn the key on for 10 sec(electric fuel pump) pump it twice and pull the choke all the way out(less than all the way out is my high idle) and she will usually fire. But the cold months are apon us so ill see how it works in the winter months.

Funny thing about this engin is that everyone makes fun of it and so on and so forth. But as soon as i say grab a rope and puter in 4wd everyone seems to back off really fast. Granted if we raced anything would beet me, but they do know in my granny gear and 1200rmp is my world, and there probally not gonna beat me there.

Thanks for listen to my bs,

Hey - 123!
It's not BS it's fact. And fact tells us...no cash 4 dis (non) clunker!

Lots of folks avoid the mechanical choke. Ele is pretty nice, the heat riser style good (esp if adapted as some have here), and the H2O choke is OK. I wanna adjust mine (ele) a little more (wish that guy didn't toss the heat riser pipe n bakelite passage etc in '87).
All random thoughts for ya 2 consider.
Cordially,
1290!

like someone said earlyer, i love how the 300 I6 shares allot of traits a diesel has. that being said, best engine ever made? not in my opinion, i actually plan on swapping a 7.3l dual turbo with a 6 speed behind it in my 78 f250, someday. so, for what is is, a hell of a engine, best ever, no. And on another note, i get a kick out of all the guys who are talking about hitching bumpers with other trucks, I'v pullled a couple of chev 454 trucks backwords, fuel injected, both 1/2 and 3/4 tons. both lifted higher then mine and with better tires. Most any truck/motor has plenty of power to spin out, comes down to weight/traction everytime
