1995 Dual Tank - Fuel Pump Issue?

I know this sounds a little obvious...but don't want to waste my time droppiing the fuel tanks if anyone has had this problem before. I got a 1995 F150 5.0 L w/ dual tanks with only 93K miles. Started getting a bad miss/stutter when under load running on front tank. Everything runs fine on the rear tank. I also get a little static on the radio when running on front tank. I'm getting ready to drop the tank (both) and change fuel pump. Anybody else got any ideas to help save my weekend!! Also...is this more than a weekend job...I need the truck for work on Monday!

Thanks

Fuel pressure should be 30-45 psi with a V8. Test it on each tank as there's one pump in each tank. Sounds like it could be the front pump going bad. It's not a bad job at all. Why are you dropping the rear tank also?

Don't laugh...I have not even crawled under the truck to look at the tanks yet.... I just assumed it was one big tank with a baffle in the middle. I figured it was not much more work to change both pumps. I guess from your thread that there are actually two tanks (i.e. I can drop one tank at a time). Looks like I'll just replace the front pump and wait for the rear one to fail next year!

Thanks for the help.

there are two ways to change pumps 1 is to drop the tank the other is to lift the bed. being that the pump is mounted thru the top of the tank. I found that it was far easier to lift the bed after dropping one tank in my pops 87 with duals all the years of dirt and road grim falling on your head and into your face..after replacing the number one tank fuel pump the number two went out..so second time around I lift the bed drove the truck out from under neither it change the pump and it allowed me to get a better look at every thing else in the back end also change the fuel filter you will need a special tool to compress the spring in the fule line you can pick it up at napa for about ten

Bed bolts can be a PITA if they're rusty... But it might be a better option if you are doing both pumps.

Dropping the tank isn't too bad. While the front tank is out you'll have much better access to the fuel filter. Why Ford didn't put it 6 inches further forward I'll never figure out.

Dropping the front tank isn't too bad at all. Did it last year on my F250 4x4. Way better than the back.

You can swap the 19gallon Midship tank for a 16gallon one from a shortbed, and it eliminates the issue..

I'm thinking about it myself....

I agree...Unless the bed is coming off, the rear tank is a toal PITFA to drop solo...

Ok here's an issue for you. I can put power to the rear tank pump and it will pump fuel. Now My thought process is that the low side is out not the high side. Any thoughts?
