Suggestions on Tranny Trouble
Hello this is my first post here but I have already read extensively through the forums, thanks for the good information. My truck is....
1995 Ford F 150 5.0 L 5 speed Manual 4x4
On my last road trip I lost 3rd and 4 th gear. After reading around the forums I believe that my forks are gone on these gears. Before I decide to rebuild or replace I would like some suggestions and opinions from others who have gone down this road. To the best of my knowledge I believe I have the Mazda M5OD transmission. The door jam on the truck says under trans: M. The writting on the side of the transmission says:
F1TA
GC
D816968.
Is this the Mazda POS I read about. I'm considering eventually lifting the truck and swapping to a 5.8W. If this Mazda tranny is a weak POS should I just scrap it and go for a ZF XXXX whaterver.... Any suggestions on a better tranny? Is it possible to get a 6 speed with a granny gear? Could I bolt it in or would I have to do some serious modification? Any suggestions, manufacturers, or war stories are greatly appreciated. One last thing, I would like to thank the ingenious engineer who thought up the location and assembly of the fuel filter. It is such a wonderful easy experience to replace. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.
