Unhappy Changing Transmission Pan

I have been experiencing very high temperatures with my C6 tranny, according to installed temp guage, as high as 250 degrees, way to damn hot! The transmission is not original equipment for my year of Bronco. There is a transmission cooler installed in front of the radiator with an extra filter installed on the left side of engine compartment, which has just been changed on it. I recently purchased an oversize transmissiom pan with gasket and filter, adding 2 more quarts to total capacity trying to correct the problem. If this doesn't work I guess I will have to resort to buying a bigger cooler? Any suggestions while I have it all off?

Before you go to far I would try another temp. gauge to be sure it's reading correctly.
Is it an electric gauge or a mechanical one?

I hadn't thought of that. It is an electric gauge. Why do you ask?

The mechanical guages are more accurate. For oil pressure and temp. you can never go wrong with mechanical guages.

Are they an easy swap with the electric ones?

They are more expensive and a little more trouble to install. Most people mount them under the dash or buy an a pillar pod to mount the guages in. You can buy a single dual or triple pillar.

My guage was put in by previous owner, left side of front window. Do you have instruction for installation?

Maybe for pressure, but good electronic temperature sensors ($3 - $5) apiece are accurate to 0.1 - 0.2F. Of course if the sensor is cheap chinese, or something even worse then it may not be very accurate. My gripe with mechanical sensors is that I don't want ATF or engine oil coming to the dashboard or pillar in any way or shape.

I have to agree with that. I think I will just get another guage and test it like that, but I am still going to change out the pan and filter since I have already purchased them. Definately can't hurt!
