According to my Chiltons book you need to replace the whole arm, not just the ball joint, is there any way around this as the arm will cost me $800 here in Australia.
Where do you guys get your parts, I may be able to order on line?

Horse feathers, Ball joints are about $40 a pop for uppers from the dealer. That's where
I got mine. I'm sure you can buy them online too. Rob

 

Sorry to say it, but the upper control arm and ball joint are one unit and has to be replaced as a whole unit. I had to replace both of my uppers in January. They cost me about $80 each, i just had to shop around. My ford dealer wanted about 200 each.

 

Oops, I guess a '97 is different than an '01, sorry.

 

My 97 tops ran me about $80 and they do come as one unit. You can check out rockauto.com and I believe that moog sells them seperate but you will have to order the moog arms to go with it, so no matter how you look at it, you will still end up changing both any how. For $300 you can order the arms and ball joints and next time you can just order the joints.
