replacement mufflers

I was told by the inspection station that my muffler leaked and that if i patched it it would not pass, because patching it was illegal. So. because i dont have enough money to get a new exhaust system like i wanted, i was wondering if i should buy the 25$ flow tech muffler from advance or the 90$ flowtech, is there a significant difference?

I also say a maremont for 80$

Personally I would get just something to fit in the place of the old muffler. The $25 Flow tech muffler would be good anough and do the job. I don't think the little diffferences between the 2 would be worth the extra $65.

I would just go another inpection place and they might overlook the leak.
Also, I have never heard patching the exhaust is illegal, thats why they sell exhaust patch in wallmart and autoparts.

I was thinking the statement about exhaust patching being illegal was a little weird, but where I live they don't check to see if you have exhaust.
