august 20th fun run to vegas/stateline from s. californa

this was emailed to me check it out:

Next Meeting/Event

Day - Date.....Saturday, August 20th
Time.....Registration 8:30 AM, Run begins at 9:00 AM
Location....Begins at Sunrise Ford, Fontana
...............Ends at Buffalo Bill's Casino, Primm Nevada
Event....Poker Run
Prizes....Best poker hand, a $500 Gift Certificate to be used at one of our site sponsors, AND, the worst poker hand will receive a $250 Gift Certificate for use at one of our site sponsors!!

(For those of you who aren't card players, here's a quick view of how a poker runs works. It's a driving event...you will get one poker card when you leave Sunrise Ford. You will drive a route and along that route will be three predesignated card stops where you will draw an other poker card. When you arrive at Buffalo Bill's, you will get the final card of a five card poker hand. When all the participants have arrived, the winning hands will be determined!)

The event will cost $20 per participant to enter.
More than one participant per vehicle is allowed...bring your spouse, friend, neighbor, or whoever along for the ride and they can play poker too!!

Participants must be in, and the drive must be made in, a diesel powered Ford.

This event we're giving Chef Gene a break and you will lunch on your own at one of the casino's restaurants.

Registration for the event will open at Sunrise Ford, Fontana at 8:30 AM Saturday morning and will be limited to the first 100 to sign up. At the registration you will complete a registration form, sign a liability waiver for the event, and be given complete instructions for the Poker Run (route, rules, etc).

The first vehicles will draw the first cards and leave Sunrise Ford no earlier than 9:00 AM. Vehicles will be able to leave Sunrise Ford any time between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM. The last chance to draw a card and leave Sunrise Ford will be at 9:30 AM, at which time that portion of the event will be closed.

The driving route is very simple...up the 15 freeway to Primm, Nevada. In between, there will be a card stop in Barstow, Baker, and the Cima Road off ramp. Each card stop is very easy to see/find and no one should be lost or confused or need to use a map for directions. The total length of the drive is about 190 miles and depending on what speed limit you observe, takes about 2 hours/45 minutes to 3 hours! The poker run will be closed down 3 1/2 hours after the last vehicle leaves Sunrise Ford...an exception to this time limit may be made for unforeseen delays like a major traffic shut down. If an exception is necessary, that exception will be made by the event coordinator and his decision will be final.

You will receive detailed instructions for the route when you register. Each card stop will have detailed instructions/directions for it's location and the approximate driving distance to the next one so you can watch your odometer as an aid.

Participants will draw a card at each stop...after the first card draw at Sunrise Ford, all the remaining cards will be in sealed envelopes at the card stops and will remained sealed until the envelopes are opened at the end of the run in Primm by a club official. Not until that time you will get to see all your cards!!

Because several decks of cards have to be used for the card stops, there may be duplicate hands and a tie for the winner. In the event of a tie for either best hand or worst hand, the tied participants will cut a fresh deck of cards in Primm and the high card from that deck will be declared the winner!

SoCAPS encourages everyone to drive safely and within the speed limit during the Poker Run!! (And at other times too!!)

Some participants may consider making this a two day event and staying the night in Primm or driving on to Las Vegas after the event and staying the night there. That decision will be up to the individual participants. If some of you would like to get together and arrange staying somewhere, please start a new post in this forum and handle the planning there!

This will be an official quarterly meeting and members attending will receive a Star by their website avatar.
