I wanted to know the specifications on the Diesel mileage on city and hwy. I plan to get a Super Duty 6.8V10 but I heard that diesel has better mileage than the V10. Anyone knows!!!

Well I've never had a PSD, but my 05 V10(see signature) gets 12 mixed driving unloaded and 9 pulling my 27ft travel trailer (6500lbs). This is a sticky subject. No superduty gets what the tree huggers would call good mileage. You should drive both and buy the one you like best. Most people around here recommend the 4.30s for a V10, I have 4.10s and I love my truck!

 

I have 6.0 and I usually get 13.5 mpg-16.5 mpg depending upon how much city driving I do. Unloaded straight highway 19 mpg. Pulling 31' travel trailer 9.5 mpg-10.5 mpg. I was hoping to get better millage. But must say I absolutely love the truck. I have a 350 cc 6.0 auto 3.73 ls.

 

My 05 PSD is getting 15 city. I think the mileage is close enough between the V10 and PSD that it really comes down to do you personally want gas or diesel. The small amount you save on mileage with the diesel, you spend on higher maintenance costs.

 

I agree, diesel vs gas for mileage vs fuel cost per gal is a toss up. Even without the maintenance implications.

Get what you feel most comfortable with. They are both good.

 

I have the PSD, '06 F250 RWD, Crew SB Lariat. If you can keep your foot out of it, either is respectible. Currently getting 20 at 90% highway, calculated manually. Worst tank was first at 16.

Think PSD might get 10-15% better than gas V10 BUT the wear on the V10 when doing towing is much greater than the wear on the PSD. You just can't beat the 570 FtLbs of torque!!

 

Over the last 1,185 miles my 05 6.0 averaged 16.199 mpg! Not as good as I would have liked, it's not as bad as the best V10 or V8 I've heard of either!

 

I just finished a 5,500 mile trip pulling a 9,000 pound fifth wheel. Got about 11 average. High of 12.5 and low of 10 in the mountains and with head wind. Solo, I get about 18 on the interstate and 14-15 in town.

 

'05 V10. 11,000 plus miles since March 1st. About 7500 miles towing. Empty truck I can get close to 15 sometimes,but ave is 13.7. Towing 6000 lb I get between 10 and 11+. Towing empty 2300 lb car hauler I get 11/12+. I have kept record of mpg on every fill since new. mpg depends on how hard you push it, head wind, load you are pulling, gas you use, AC on or off, etc.etc. All of the mpg figures could go up or down depending on lots of variables. If I was more careful all the time I could raise my mpg figures a little, on the other hand if I drove the way I'd like to, mpg figures would go down. I am not complaining.

 

Well, I generally post my mileage logs from towing trips for everyone but I haven't got around to tis yet for my last run.

I've got a 2004 F350 CC 4x4 with the 6.0 PSD and the Torqshift Auto in it. I don't do all that much city driving, but when I do I get between 13 and 15 MPG. On the Highway I get between 17 and 20. With the trailer on back and a decent load, I'll get between 10 and 14 MPG.

As stated earlier, the Diesel will probably hold up a little longer if you plan on towing heavy loads long distances a lot. Savings from fuel are pretty much eaten up in maintenance. It's more about what you plan to do with the truck and how much maintenance you do yourself.

 

You guys that are getting 19 to 20 mpg on the highway I have one question; how fast are you driving???? I drove to Birmingham today trying to keep my speed at 75 mph just to see if I could get at least 18 or better, but the lie-o-meter was showing 17.6 at the end of my mini-trip. I'm having a tough time getting consistent with topping the tank so getting an accurate hand-calculation is a little challenging.

 

I have an 2005 C/C with TowBoss. Towing a combined weight of 24,500 lbs. I get about 10 mpg, that is 2 better than my old 1994 Turbodiesel. Average unloaded is about 15 mpg, down slightly from the 1994.

 

(2005 supr-duty 6.0l pwrstrwk crew cab s.bed) I am getting 12-13 mpg city,and 14-15 highway. I have heard that this is normal during the so called "break in period" of the truck.(10000k-20000k miles.) I have talked to several people that say I should expect anywhere from 17-20mpg highway and 15-16 city under normal conditions(not towing)....The price diffrence between the gasoline engine and the diesel is pretty big, But I feel the diesel will pay off in the long run, Service....etc. If you plan on towing the diesel would be the better choice. enjoy your new spr-duty!

 

My 05 V10 uses about 20% more fuel than my 04 PSD to do the same job. For me the V10 was a good choice. If you tow heavy a lot and put over 30000 miles a year on your truck the PSD may be a better choice. Go down to the V10 Forum and see how most V10 owners love these incredible motors. I have bought brand spanking new the following Ford trucks and motors, 1975-390 1980-351 1981-400 1988-460 1995-7.3 PSD 2000-7.3 PSD 2004- 6.0 PSD and now my 2005 6.8 V10. The only two lemons I got were the 80 and 04. The rest I had great service with and really enjoyed. So far this 05 has been the most fun to own and drive and I hope it will prove out to be reliable as well. take care, Wrenchtraveller.
