2005 F350 Gawr ?
I was looking at a new Diesel 2006 CC F350 DRW 4X2 to pull a 14,000 lb fully loaded 5th Wheel and see the following:
GAWR Front = 4850 lbs
GAWR Rear = 9000 lbs
GCWR = 26,000 lbs (4.3 differential)
I can't seem to find the GAWR for the same F350 for 2005 to compare axle ratings, but I do see the following in the Ford's 2005 Ford's RV & Towing Guide brochure: (Same Truck)
GCWR = 23,500 lbs (differential 4.10)
My question is: Has anything changed in the 2006 chassis, axles and springs to support the increase of combined weight by 2,500 lbs?
Also ... what about the fuel mileage? It seems with the 4.3 differential you would see a substantial decrease??
Any advice appreciated.

In 2005, 26k fifth wheel towing is the limit for a DRW with 4.30's. It is the 4.30's that give the extra load capacity, not the 2006 model year truck. A 2006 with 4.10's will be the same as the 2005, in that the GVWR will be less than that of one with the 4.30's.
In my experience, I do get worse fuel economy with the 4.30's, but it is only about 1 mpg. The difference in towing ability though more than makes up for any mileage loss.

this site should give you the low down on the 2005 info. However, I don't think that it includes info for vehicles with the 4.30 gearing(tow-boss) I have no idea if gearing has any bearing on GCVR, but if it does, then that might explain the differences in weights.

also, you might need to cut/paste this site in you web browser if it doesn't come up for you

I can see why the lower gearing of 4.3 would give a greater towing capacity, but I'm wondering about the 9,000 GAWR for the rear of the 2006 F350. How does that compare to the 2005 F350? I checked the links ... but no info. They DO show the maximum trailer capabilities, but not the axle GAWRs for the 2005 models. My Duramax is 6083 lbs and the F350 shows 9,000 lbs ... which is good, but what changes did they make to get it to there? A 14,000 5th wheel into the bed of my 8,000 loaded Duramax is right on the max allowed. I guess I'm just a little dubious about the jump from the 2005 to the 2006 F350 without seeing the data. Or ... maybe paranoid.

My 2005 F350 DRW rear axle is also rated at 9000 lbs. Check here for 2005 specs..... https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...essd-exlbb.pdf
