Really, What kind of family is this???
MSRP $51,000.00
A/Z Plan $42,803.45
D-Plan $42,903.45
X-Plan $44,643.46
Invoice $44,747.45 (Negotiated price was $44,600)
So the family plan sounds like a good deal, right? The prices above are accurate. I believe tax is based on the "selling price" BEFORE rebates are taken out...
The prices for license and "fees" are only estimated, but the same across the board. If Jeff or Ernie want to add something, please feel free, but I just wanted to do a basic comparison.
A-Plan
Price $42,803.00
Tax $3,317.23
Lic. $750.00
Misc/Doc $500.00
Total $47,370.23
Deductions (AQHA) $0
Rebates (Ford and Home Depot) $0
Total Incentives $0
Total for Family Plan - Incentives = $47,370.23
X-Plan

Tax $3,459.83
Lic. $750.00
Misc/Doc $0.00
Total $48,852.83
Deductions (AQHA) Not eligible
Rebates (Ford and Home Depot) $1,500.00
Total Incentives $1,500.00
Total for X-Plan - Incentives = $47,352.83
Negotiated Price
Price $44,600.00
Tax $3,456.50
Lic. $750.00
Misc/Doc $500.00
Total $49,306.50
Deductions (AQHA) $500.00
Rebates (Ford and Home Depot) $1,500.00
Total Incentives $2,000.00
TOTAL $47,306.50
Total for Family Plan - Incentives = $47,370.23
Total for X-Plan - Incentives = $47,352.83
Total for My Price Plan - Incentives = $47,306.50
(Of course, these numbers are using the rebates and incentives BEFORE Aug, 1st)
With a family plan like this, maybe you need a SuperDuty so you can pack all your stuff and move away from them....

It''s not whether I like the deal or not. I actually ordered the truck I wanted and was willing to give them their price. When I ordered, there were NO incentives for the 2006's. I just thought it funny that through all the smoke, I am pretty much paying the same price. At least Ford is not charging me EXTRA for the party favors and confetti to sell everyone on their Family Plan....

Hey, you guys are like a Ford store now. You are not even operating like independent dealerships anymore. Pretty soon you guys will be set up in the mall operating out of a little kiosk If you need service on your new vehicle after the sale, it will need to be taken to a regional Ford service center. There will be a total of 8 of those, so make sure you live pretty close to one

It has been very well discussed in the media that all of the Big 3 "Family Plans" did not really increase the discount. In fact, around here, the prices actually went up (I am told that Texas is a very crazy market for pickups).
So, why are the plans successful? "No Haggle" pricing.
As your example above demonstrates, anyone can walk in off the street and pay within a few $100 of what you we able to get after maybe 2-3 hours of negotiations.
This may come as a surprise to you, but "negotiating" the purchase of a new car has been rated by consumers as only slightly more entertaining than root canal and prostate surgery.

Sorry Jeff and Polarbear, not a knock on you personally, but the system in general.

Amern jschira! What else do we buy where we have to sit down for 2-3 hours and haggle over every little detail???
I can just imagine going to Best Buy, Circuit City or Sears and sitting in an office for 3 hours to buy a Printer or Washing Machine.
No offense to car dealers or salesman because I have friends that do this for a living, but the system is outdated.
We live in an instant world and I want what I want now not 2-3 hours for now after I am exhausted. (assuming I can pay for it of course).
I think Jeff and Polarbear do this today. They have a set price (FTE) and you can buy or not. .. it is that easy. No haggling or wasting our time.

I still have NOT met my sales guy... He's in San Diego. (Friend of the family's) He was the only one that would come close to Polarbears FTE program. It came down to a plane ticket. Not mine, but the extra one for the girlfriend, because she said there was NO way she was going to let me go up to Oregon alone. Too many stories when I went up there to get my Expy... Man, I had a great time...

Yep- I understand the consumers distaste for the negotiating process. On the other hand, cars and Real Estate are the only two items left that are still negotiable. In both cases, the transaction price is a bit more than you're going to spend at Circuit City , and there's generally financing and trade-ins to deal with- the two things that mitigate against the kiosk idea.
edit: yes, the Texas market has always been cheaper, but don't count your blessings too quickly. It's killing you guys on trade-in values as well- I'd be willing to bet the actual difference figures you're paying are as much or more than in other parts of the country.

Inefiicient? Of course it is, but I think what polarbear and I have been doing is about a 1000% improvement over "the old way." And as polarbear said, there are trade-ins to deal with. Where Circuit City is smart is this: the product they sell becomes obsolete every 2-3 years. The trade-in value of a 4-year old Compaq PC is.......zip. that sure eliminates any trade-in hassles, doesn't it?
And I love broad, sweeping generalizations. If anyone here can buy a 2005 Ranger pickup for $1000 below invoice AND get the rebate on top of that, would you let me know where they are? 'Cause that's a lot less than I can buy them for, and I'd like to go get a few for my lot.
