I have a 1992 Explorer 4.0 pushrod engine that I changed the heads on, but when I got done, it would turn over but not start. So I put a Code Scanner on it and the light just stays on.I checked the scanner on another truck, and it works fine.I've checked the wiring for days & days, cant find anything unplugged,or a bad fuse.Sure would appreciate any suggestions.
Not sure how your scanner is setup; and I always just use a jumper wire and a voltmeter to get codes (see www.troublecodes.net/Ford). Your description of the problem suggests that somehow STI (Self-Test Input -- single wire) isn't being jumpered to SIG RET (Pin 2 in self-test connector).
The code scanner I'm using is an Actron, and it works just fine on other trucks, but my problem lies somewhere in the check engine light, because since I've put it back together,I dont get the check engine with the key on,engine off.
I still have this problem, its just now getting warm enough outside to play with it again. What wire or fusible link could take away my "check engine light"?
