question for kansas

ok, i posted here because i feel dumb for asking it...

dad called me from western kansas and asked me what wrong when they can push the truck in neutral and then put it in any gear and it will kill the pulling vehicle (trying to pull start it). i dont think that a starter would hold up all that weight but mebbe it can... now we have been having a hell of a time getting starters to last on this truck.. any ideas guys?

If you put it in gear and it kills the pulling truck there are a few possibilities.
1. The motor is locked up
2. The gearing is real low, try using a higher gear (2nd-3rd)
4. Your pulling it with a Chevy

Even if the starter is hung up it should still spin it. Just so i got this straight, with the tranny in gear and the clutch depressed it will roll just fine, but if you dump the clutch it locks up the tires and drags the towing truck to a stop right??? If that's the case then the motor has to be locked up, you can try pulling the starter to see but I just can't see a starter that will hold a motor like that. But then again I ain't seen it ALL yet lol.

is there anywhere i can get a complete rebuild kit?

bearings, seals, valves, gaskets, oilpump, valve seats and guides, head gaskets, rings and anything ive forgotten?

im sure my heads and crank and cam will be fine, they all were on the last rebuild...

i will definitaly have the block, heads and cam all professionally mic'd and then the block and heads checked for cracks

Has the truck been flat towed a considerable distance? The NP435 has the potential to seize third gear to the shaft if your T-case is not in neutral. If you check out the "knowledge Base" area on the Novak transmission site, they go a little more in depth on that.

If it is your tranny and you need a new (different) 435, let me know.

Oops. I missed the part about your Tcase being a married type.

PM'd you about the tranny.

sounds like the truck is going to sit and rust, we cant afford to overhaul it... we have just had to much trouble with this one truck

Matt

p.s. any ideas why we keep burnign starters out? ive replaced all the wireing and he is installing a ground wire from the terminal to the starter this time

omg, my dad just called me, they said they popped the starter out and pulled it and it started right up... so let that be a lesson to us all that a hung up starter can hold and engine up enough to kill a tow vehicle

im so happy... whew!
