Tranny and rear end grease

Tranny and rear end grease
I am too the point where I will be going over the rear axle and 4 speed tranny in my 59. I am going to drain and refill the fluids and was wondering if I should consider going with some of the new synthetic oils instead of the old standby 80 to 90 weight grease(oil?).
Anyone have any experience with the new synthetics and, if so, any recommendations as to which one and what weight? Truck will only see light duty - it has the stock 223 six so I don't expect to strain the drive components ever.

The "Old Boy" I got my truck said he would use 80 or 90wt and put a small ball of wheel bearing grease in the rear end to even get it smoother. I never tried it but it sounds good. Anybody tried it? I agree the synthetics would probably get you a oil spot and cost you more money.
