Who makes the brightest 6v headlight?
I purchased a new headlight from Sacramento's. The outside of the box says Sylvania.... but the bulb says General Electric?? Whats up with that?? Either Sylvania is owned by GE or someone swapped the bulb before shipping.
The bulb works like shiznit too. I have tried other GE bulbs and they are really crappy.
Does anyone know who makes a bright headlight bulb in 6 volt?

Have you considered changing over to 12V. All you need to do is swap all the bulbs over to 12v and if you still have the original radio and want to keep it, is get an inverter to knock the 12V down to 6V just for the radio. As long as you are not dealing with F.I. and computers, there shouldn't be any problems. I changed several VW's over like this back in my youth. An added bonus is that the starter will spin twice as fast. Makes for easy starts. Good luck.

I think there is a little more than that that has to be done. The gages are not made to run off of 12 volts, I am not sure how long a heater motor would last, ballast resistor. You would also have to switch out the generator to a 12 volt unit and get a new voltage regulator.
What is the rated output on the box? 25watt 50 watt? 50 watt high 32 watt low?
Have you checked the voltage at the headlights with the lights on? I would do this to make sure the electrical system has clean connections and doesn't need adjusting.

The connections are good. I switched my other much brighter headlight over to the other fixture and it was just as bright..... so it is not the socket.... it is the bulb.
The dimmer headlights say General Electric on the lens but are stamped Sylvania, on the back of the bulb in ink. So apparently GE makes headlights that Sylvania sells.
I have two of these GE headlights and they are horrible compared to the other no name headlight. I am going to try to find out what make the no name headlight is. The no name headlight (just says "Made in America"), works very well.
Hoping someone with a 6v system has had good experience with a particular headlight and will post.
Yes.... I have been considering switching to 12 volt. If I can find the same no name headlight that works great, I might just stay 6 volt for a while.

Check the wattage of the headlight that you purchased. Also check the wattage of the brighter headlight. I would bet that the brighter light is a higher wattage not a better made bulb. You can purchase 12 and 6 volts headlights in various wattages. My Jeep has 55 watt high beam light and 50 watt low beam light that is the maximum allowed by the DOT regulations. From the factory it had 45 watt high beams and 40 watt low beams. Cheaper to purchase I bet. Check out this link
