Rear differential leak

My wife and I recently purchased an 05 Escape xlt. I noticed this afternoon that the rear differential was leaking. I plan to call the dealership this week to get them to take care of it (only 1500 miles on it).

Anyone else had any problem with the rear leaking?

Thanks

I haven't heard of them leaking. No help here, I've got a female Escape so no diff hanging between the tires.

Update....

Ford said they would replace it and recommended rather than a tech go into it, just replace the enitre rear differential. It wasn't a bad leak but it was still a leak that shouldn't be there. Especially with less than 2k miles on it!

Not a big deal, sometimes they are not properly torqued when assembled. The transmission pan was the same way in my Ranger.

Not a common escape problem... you just got lucky with a defective seal or something...

Because it's so rare nobody there has probably fixed a leaking one... so they'll just replace it under warranty and every one is happy

02 escape rear differential leak

My mechanic recently found a rear diff. seal leak on my '02 Escape and said that I might have to replace the entire rear diff. because Ford put aluminum differentials in the Escape and they warp, so a new seal would never "seal."

Anybody know if that's accurate and, if so, whether Ford has done -- or will do -- anything about it?

I doubt that Ford will do anything for a six year old vehicle. You are probably on you own for the repair.
