Just got my 1957 Ford F-250 up here..........i have a question about the 292 y-block in it. It has the crossover pipe and when going down the road the temperature guage is reading in the middle then when ya let it set and cool down and turn the key to accessory, it reads almost to the H. I was wondering if it was normal for y-blocks to od this and if it isn't, what could be the problem, thanks.

Klatt -

You are watching a "temperature soak" condition. While running, the water circulation is moving the heat out and a constant state temperature is achieved. When the motor is stopped, the temperature goes up because the residual heat soaks into the block and water jacket. Without water circulating, the heat builds up. Notice that as soon as you start it again, the temp goes back down.

This happens to every engine, not just your Y-block.
