mustang headers and cam

His truck has a roller cam, But his cam selection will be limited since the truck is speed density. Comp or crain will be able to point you in the right direction for a cam. Headers for a mustang will fit your motor but they probly won't fit in the truck, besides there are a lot of companies that make headers to fit you truck.

the mustang ho cam is a stock cam still. and if you had it in a mustang it would produce better results then in your rig i promise you that. the mustang shorty headers are fine , but put the collector farther back close to the firewall compared to a header built for a truck. also if its a stock mustang header from the factory its not as good as the aftermarket period

The stock HO mustang 5.0s run to 6200 rpm...the trucks run to 5500 rpm...the cam is much different. You're better off buying from aftermarket then trying to swap in mustang stuff. The mustang parts are ment for a light/fast mustang, not a heavy/slow truck. Trucks need torque more then the mustangs do, and the mustangs don't have the low end torque like the trucks do. Thats the main difference between a 302 truck and 302HO mustang engine, the powerband is much different.

Yeah, the redline on a 'Stang is 5800, Fuel shutoff at 6250, but a 'Stang with E7 heads falls on its face shortly after 5000 RPM. If you want a really good torque cam, get one out of one of the last years of T-bird 5.0's. Same as a stock Mustang Cobra cam. Not too much duration, but good lift numbers with 1.7 rockers and very very torquey down low.
Hunt for an early (pre-96) 5.0 explorer, you will find a set of GT-40 heads! Good hunting!

I agree, the shorties come closer to the firewall, and the fit is difficult on 4wd trucks.

A stock Explorer cam is the same as the 96 F-150 I think. Those are actually probably really good with some 1.7 rockers. At least they favor the exhaust side unlike the HO cam which is backwards from what it should be. With stock 5.0 heads you need a cam that favors the exhaust to make up for the weak exhaust flow. You could also advance the HO cam though like 3* to drop the power curve down some. My Mustang ran the best times pre-SC'ed shifting at 5000-5200 rpms. It is a total waste to go higher than that.
