Quiet please.....Road Noise.....Firewall Insulation ?

Hi there everyone,

This is my first time Posting so if I mess up please give me a break Thanks.
I have A 1973 F-250 4x4. I have put everything possible in it to make it quieter on the freeway.
But no matter what, It will still give you a headache. The only thing that I have left to do is install
a new Firewall cover inside my truck.

Has anyone ever installed one and if so did it make a noticeable difference in road noise.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hello, Welcome to FTE. Have you tried searching on "road noise"? If I remember right someone not to long ago had found a place where a lot of road noise entered the cab.

Thanks for using FTE!

Quiet please.....Road Noise.....Firewall Insulation ?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 10-Dec-02 AT 10:51 AM (EST)] I'm also trying to eliminate all the air leaks in my cab/insulate noise. The vent windows seem to be the first place to start looking for wind noise. I also sprayed sound deadener inside the door, covered the inside face with dynamat and made a metal cover for the access hole in the door.
Undercoating the cab would be usefull.

Any know of a way to generate a harmless smoke? I would like to introduce it into the cowl vent with the heater on high and look for leaks.

Kevinkevin,

Are you talking about the sound deadening under the interior carpet that rises up partially on the firewall?

Or the black insulation that has to be glued to the firewall?

I don't really understand this "Firewall Cover" which you are talking about.

Kevin, do you just have the rubber floor mat in your truck? I put a carpet from a 79 Lariat in my 68 and it immediately cut out about sixty percent of the road noise

Quiet please.....Road Noise.....Firewall Insulation ?

I like this site a lot and have gotten a bunch of info from it. However, I want to come to KevinKevin's defense about the search function. I must be stupid but I have tried the search several times and have been disappointed each and every time. The last time I went over the FAQ's twice and did not find anything relating to the search. It appears that the search does not "search" the posts in the forums but articles as each listing.

I just did a search for "road noise" and did not find anything about reducing it in the 73-79 trucks.

Please help, because I know there is a ton of great info I am missing.

Thanks
Daune

I replaced the fire wall insulator when I did my restoration. You will need to remove the heater case to change it.

Search function: I'm a little confused on seaching. I don't find the option on the top of the page only on the right side which seems to search the web. Do you need to be a member to search the forums? I haven't been able to join either.

The stuff I did to my door worked excellent! A world of difference and the speakers are much better too. Next time I do carpet I will spray the sound deadener and then use the insulation also. The deadener smells for a while.

Okay Guys & Gals
I'll try and give you the best explanation possible

If and when you have a concern about site problems I would like to mention to go look in the feedback & suggestions forum.

The reason is,people from all the forums ask questions about this and those threads that mention the search feature are moved to the F&S forum.

Presently, FTE is going through many changes in regards to computer oriented things. The site is quite overwhelmingly successful and needs upgrading. Ken has done about 6 upgrades this year. That's every two months.

When the site is Overwhelmed with traffic and things like the motorhaven store have to be kept unfettered. What this does is cause FTE to shut down certain areas of the site.

The search feature is one of these areas.

The search then becomes a Manual thing to do.
You can search page by page by scrolling to the bottom and clicking the next page.
It is just the automatic search feature that is down.

Now, On a note for searching.

I think that catchy type headers are great for the General Conversation forum but, they aren't worth a darn in the tech forums.

The header info is the most important wording for searching.

Example:

How is a person supposed to find a thread that might have been posted 8 months ago regarding "Road Noise" when the Person titled the thread,
"You won't believe this" or "I hear Too Much in my truck" ??

Read some of the active titles and see how many actually mention the problem.

Searching by Subject is By Far Easier than searching the Message or By Author. This is why the title should be relative to the topic.

The header on this thread was edited by me because "Quiet Please" was not about Road noise.

This is why I added to it, for Kevin.

So, The search feature will come and go until all the upgrades are done.

Until then, I would be making sure that Titles are made according to the Topic they need to find out about. That will make things easier for you and future users.

I also suggest that the word gets out, to title threads accordingly to AID in the search, when the feature is running again.

This Is Most important in the 73-79 forum as it's one of the most used forums

Remember You are F.T.E. and with your contributions make it great,
Let's get those titles/Headers On Topic.

Any Questions ?

I'll watch for them in the User Feedback & Suggestions forum.

What do you think ?
