Info on 1989 F-150?

Hi!

This is my first post to your forum. Last week I got a sweet deal on a 1989 4x4 F150 LB, 5.8, auto Lariat XLT with 72k miles for $1,900!

Where can I find information on-line that would describe specifications, towing ratings, driveline components, etc? A FAQ would be nice if there is one.

What shop manual do you guys recommend?

Any idea where I can get an owners manual?

Finally I am going to throw some 33x12.5s on there w/o lifting it. Anyone have pictures of this combo?

Starved for info,

BillyBob

Specs & tow ratings will be in the owner's manual. You'll need to find your gear ratio before you can find out how much you can tow.

the best manual is the ford service manual. You can find them on ebay, and if you're patient, you can get a good deal. Owners manuals same place.

33's will not fit on that truck without a lift.

Sounds like a very good deal - welcome to FTE, this forum is the best.

Chilton's Ford Full Size Trucks 87-96 (Part # 8136) is a good start. The first chapter will tell you how to break down your VIN for engine, trans, and rear's. You could also call 1-800-782-4356. That is a FoMoCo # where you should be able to order a shop manual for your truck. There are a ton of other books available but what you buy depends on how deep you are willing to go to fix a problem. Amazon.com is a good place for used or out of print publications.
With all respect to andym I am not sure about 33's being too tall for your truck. I have a 88 F-250 4x4 all stock suspension and I put 35x12.50xR16.5 LT's under it. The fronts rub the leafs if I cut the steering all the way, aside from that no problems. Since you have basicaly the same truck with a lighter payload capacity you might be able to get a set of 33's on it. I would ask around though. I put my tires on after I read a magazine article about how big you could go stock but that was ten years ago. I could'nt begin to guess where I read that. I hope this info helps, Karl....

being a 150, 33's will not fit properly withought a lift. By properly I mean being able to articulate in a full range of motion not 3".
