On my last tank, I got the best I've ever had - 21.2 for mixed city/highway, including one 60 mile jaunt with an 1100 lb. load... not bad, eh?

maybe i am wrong, but i believe he was talking about highest mileage as in actual miles, not gas....such as 375,000 miles on a f-150

165,000 on my '97. It's sitting in the driveway till I reinstall the intake manifold with the new gaskets this weekend. Praying no internal damage happened.

Knowing the gasket problem has been taken care of after the '99 models, I'd still buy another 4.2l. It's been extremely dependable over the 6 + years I've owned it.

Dodged a bullet on the intake. Looks like all is well.

As for the 4.2l, the newer ones (after 2000) will be OK. Good motor with few problems, my only beef is the milage tanks bad when towing my 18 1/2ft bassboat. Around 20mpg on the highway w/o boat, around 12 with.

Should hit 117,000 by the end of the week. No engine trouble really to speak of, so far. Now, tracking down this vibration/shudder problem is another thing.
