I use the Mobil 1 4T formulation...because Triumph tells me to. I use Motorcraft in the F150 because that's what Ford recommends.
I believe the Motul synthetic is pretty equivalent.
Motorcycle Consumer News did an in-depth comparison of the high-end MC oils a few years ago, I believe with the cooperation of a Gold Wing club. I don't think it's on the internet. And I think Mobil 1 was pretty highly rated.

I notice that Canadian Tire is marketing a 5W-20 in their own brand synthetic here in Canada. This is likely made by Esso (Exxon).
Because my truck in operated in very dusty conditions I follow the severe service recommendations for oil change intervals. This does kind of negate the long life advantage of synthetic. The main reason I use it is for those -40 cold starts.
At least when you pay the price for a full synthetic you know what you are getting. Partial synthetics don't seem to have any particualar standards and don't generally indicate the percentage of synthetic content. They may actually be a much poorer deal.
I have been running synthetic oil made by Mobil, Esso, Penn, Canadian Tire and Texaco in both gas and diesel engines for years. I have never had any sort of problem and I always feel my engine is better protected with synthetic in the crankcase.
When I lived further north in Saskatchewan and was driving an F250 with a 6.9 litre diesel I decided to treat the old beast to some good 5W-40 synthetic. That engine took 10 or 11 litres of oil for a change and I went with Mobil Delvac. The WalMart where I had it done said I set the record at that time for an oil change at $150. The upside from the usual 15W-40 was that when I started it at -40 the oil pressure guage didn't take a couple of minutes before it moved!

Nice test on Mobil 1 vs Amsoil ASL. They ran these oils to 18k and 14k miles respectively and tested the oils without changing them.
