Tim Horton's...AARRGGHHH!
OK, I have a beef with Tim Horton's. How many times do you order a coffee to go and you are holding it and it starts leaking on your hand?? I would say at least 1/2 of my coffees will leak on me (or in my new car). I make sure the lid is tight (and it is) but it still keeps leaking.
Maybe I should sue...

You guys need help !!!!!!!
The only thing you can do about the lids is to center the lid properly.
The cup has a seam running up the side to the lip. The lid has the pull tab to open the drinking port. Align the left side of the port, before you pull it open, with the seam. Be carefull when you reseat the lid because the plastic is more brittle than other brands and tends to crack on the seam side of the port.
I drink 6-10 coffes a day & quite often have plenty of time to experiment with lid location & fit. Depending on which brand of coffee shop you go to, the cups may be left fit (TH) or right fit (Bakers Dozen, my favorite).
Don't get me started on Tim's drive-through. Tim Horton was a professional athlete, not your average, lazy person that can't be bothered to get his butt out of the car to fetch a coffee. I can just see Tim rolling over in his grave knowing his name is related to an outfit that promotes lazyness.
Sorry if anyone takes this comment as a poke in the eye.

It doesn't always leak from that seam. I usually put the part where I drink from at that seam so there is one less leak. But it leaks around the edges as well. When my lid is on the cup sitting in my cupholder (unopened) I don't want any leaks!

P.S. All this talk about leaks and ports makes me think we are talking about boating...

I think the lid is supposed to be at the top, Matt. I never have the kind of problems that you have.
Did have a problem with a coffee in the boss's Caddy though, dropped the cup on my way out the door and it had a slow leak at the seam, filled the cupholder right up and got coffee on the boss's pants. Oops.
It does make a difference though if you have the Northern Ontario lid or the Southern Ontario lid. Yes, they are different!!
