Any way to get black plastics (like door handles) black again?

Hi guys - I just got a enw pick-up, and have been wondering about the black plastics on it.

These pastic parts generally fade - but some of them just get non-black with wax over-runs.

I'd like to get these parts black again without playing with protectants, silicones or whatever. They don't have to be showroom shiny black, just factory black if I can get them that way.

I figured someone who knows their long-term detailing stuff might hang out in this forum.

Best,
Gamma

Try Black to Black. I know it made some dark paint (trim) on my '69 T-bird look almost new.

I have used Back to Black on my X and it helped the black plastic parts alot. The first treatment didn't completely restore the color, but I think with one or two more they will be fine. I had just let them go for awhile so they needed to soak up some more. The worst parts were the lift gate handle, the touch pad surround on the drivers door, the cowl below the windshield and the roof rack cross bar ends (which are gone now anyway since I took them off to install my cargo basket).

Mother's Back to Black is a good product. Will not leave a greasy film like some do. But it is not a permanent fix.

thanks guys! 'Back to Black' seems to be an option.

I guess that any chemical that would really get it true black again would be so strong it would hurt the paint? Might not have many great options here - but i've never tried BtB, so maybe it is what I am looking for!

Best,
Dave

The way that plastic is made, the only good fix is to replace it with new, and that will eventually do the same thing. The Back to Black won't hurt your paint and it is as good a temporary fix as I have found.

something just tells me that if it fades like it does, then it is porous, and thus it would take a black chemical stain of some sort (if taken off of the vehicle).

i dunno.

:-)

Slash,
Back to Black isn't the same stuff for tires. It's mainly made for dark colored trim, vinyls etc... At least I'm pretty sure that's what the bottle says. I know it made the black trim paint on the back of my T-bird stand out.
