The oil in the peanut butter is the cause for that. It re(I guess hydrates?) the plastic.
While I'm thinkin about it, if you ever get gum in your hair, or if your kids do, you can put peanut butter around it and let it sit. The oil in the peanut butter will be absorbed into the hair and the gum with slide out. Just a little PS.

I came across this tip on a motorcycle forum that I belong to. There is a product called S100 Engine Brightener that nearly everyone on the forum swears by. Motorcycle plastics fade badly over the years due to so much exposure. This stuff supposedly brings back the black and lasts for several months. I just bought a can today to try. It's available at most Harley dealers and most motorcycle shops. Also available online (EBAY). It's about $8.00 a can but lasts a long time as you use it sparingly.

I just read the back of a Back to Black bottle. It claims it can restore any hard surface. Doesn't mention tires and that may be for a good reason. The surface needs to be solid, non pourous. I can tell you from experience that it will take a few separate applications, but it works fine.
