ATTEN: 03 6.0 owners
I have an 03 6.0 PSD CC LB FX4 SRW sport pkg.
Now have 20,000 miles on truck. thinking about tradeing to newer one.
Just wondering if I should just keep the truck since they wont give me fair trade in on new one.
In 20,000 miles I`ve had three rear engine seals replaced, engine replaced at 12,000 miles, lower radiator hose replaced, EGR replaced, flashed I dont know how many times, cruise control replaced, lombar replaced, steering sector replaced and some minor rattles fixed.
Is there anyone out there with high miles on their 03 and the problems they have had, need to know what I have to look forward to if I keep truck.
I`ve got my truck fixed up the way I want and really dont want to start over.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Man thats alot of problems. Youd almost think youd got a lemon with all the problems youve had. Is everything alright as of now. If it is I would keep it. No use giving it away. Sonic blue is my favorite color BTW. Good Luck on whatever you do. So how much does the dealer want for a new one.

Sorry to hear about all your problems. My 03 has nearly 31000 miles
and except for programming issues, it runs great. The only part that
has been replace is the HFCM. I have considered getting a 06, but
Ford is going to have to show me that the 06 is MUCH better than
my 03. I have had people at work tell me that have 04's and 05's,
they would like for their trucks to run like mine. I no longer have the
pilot injection and my t/h has been neutered, but she runs and tows
like a champ, and gets great fuel mileage. If it is running good now, and
if you are happy with it, I would keep it. You will probably take a beating
on a trade. Good luck on your decision and keep us posted.

I've got 40k on my '03 6.0 F-350 CC Dually FX4, We pull a heavy living quarter horse trailer. I haven't had any problems except right now I think my clutch is going out. I am not a AT guy so I special ordered a standard. This truck runs great, had a few issues early on which the flash fixed. One gripe I have is that the stock turbo connectors (for lack of the correct terminology) seep oil thru them and smell bad. I have talked to the service people and they say it is normal leakage, kinda strange to me. I am going to look for some kind of replacement if there is such a thing. Oh yea. mine is sonic blue and metallic silver with ranchhand bumpers, guards, headache and waag kickouts.

i am at 60k now, drive about 3k a month...
anyway, my truck had the HFCM replaced at 55k, water in fuel light stayed on with no water in it.
it has been flashed at least 4 times, maybe 5....
it eats tires like there is no tomorrow.....i need to buy another set, and at only 60....thats pretty bad IMHO.
truck has been awesome.
still has stock brakes, balljoints, and wheel bearings too!

Fordfast-I have over 40k miles currently on my 6.0L. We left CA in April are currently in Montana after traveling to Alaska, Canada and back into the lower 48. The only problem to date that I've had is a bearing failure on the drive shaft. This truck ( 6.0LSuper Duty F250 Lariat) has performed flawlessly otherwise. If you are happy with the truck, I suggest you keep it and enjoy the power and performance of what I consider the best truck on market.

Fordfast, i have just been through what you are wanting to do. First off I had an 03 f250 4X2 crew cab. bought it brand new in nov of 03, it was a late built 02 engine/truck. Everything was fine til 15,000 miles, water in fuel light came on, replaced fuel filters, still stayed on, dealer replaced HFCM, no problem. 20,000 miles lost 4 injectors. After a minor infraction by the dealer ("what we got here is a failure to communicate") 4 injectors replaced, transducer replaced, HFCM replaced, FICM replaced, truck ran great til I traded it in 2 days ago. Fortuantly for me the local dealer here had 11 remaining 05's on the lot with 16 06's that don't seem to be selling quite as fast as they would like. Sticker of 44,000 on the 05 f250 crew cab 4X4, it had some minor feature swaps ( my 03 had back up alarm, 6cd changer, power pedals, 8800 lb package.... 05 has power driver and passenger seats, single cd changer, tow command feature, 10,000 lb package, fx4 skid plates and rancho shocks, with no back up alarm....all in all a pretty good upgrade.) If it were not for the fact that on more than several occasions I have needed 4 wheel drive, I would still be in my 03. Original brakes, ball joints, did put a set of michlin ltx tires on it which made a big difference in the way the truck drove and handled.
(News Flash...........this just in B.F. Goodrich tires sucks a fat one)
Was getting 18-19 mpg between 70-75mph muffler off, latest flash, synthetic rotella-t oil, on the hwy. SO the decision is up to you, but if you really look you can find a dealer who is willing to deal. Here is the hard numbers that you are really wanting. I was upside down in my 03 to the tune of $10,000 (owed $31,260 trade was worth between $21,000 to $23,000) My payments were $651 per month on the 03 @5.25 interest, financing $41,000 for 72 months, after signing the deal 2 days ago I am in a 05 for $819 per month with gap protection and 5 yr 100,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty @4.9 interest, financing $50,000 for 72 months. Less the gap protection (people in LA, tend to not always have insurrance) and the extended bumper to bumper warranty (100,000 seem like a security blanket on the repeat offender versions of the 6.0) My payments would have been $755 per month for 72 months @4.9 interest with $46,500 financed. So basicly to recap, minus the extra protection from "been there and done that" I got into a new truck for $100 a month more, a great deal for me since I have quit working on the road and the miles won't pile up on the new truck near as fast.

43,000 miles and had a few bugs that seemed to be all software realted I only had it flashed once in Oct. of 03 and every now and then I will feel a small surge at a traffic light but it always goes away. I tow with it on and off all year and just love my truck. I havn't had to change the brakes yet and they work better than both my Dodge and Chevy that I have owned. knock on wood. I haven't made any changes to my truck as far as tuners and things. The only mod that I have done is a leveling kit.
