Mushy Brakes!
Hello again,
When I was leaving work Friday night I noticed that my brakes were acting funny. As I push down the paddle it feels like there is nothin there. It only stops
when I press the peddle all the way down to the floor. It has now been around 3 day since I noticed the problem and it is still there. The brakes sometimes work 1/10 times. When the brake is pressed for an exstended amount of time, the brake will let go and then go down to the floor.
I just put new pads on around 3 months ago. BTW the truck is a 97, 2wd
Thanks,
Josh

Start by checking the fluid level, if it's low, you're going to have to bleed the system. If it's not low, sounds like a master cylinder, which is not for the amature tinkerer. (No offense intended) Until it's repaired properly, however, I would park it if you don't to rearend someone, or breeze through a red light with your foot to the floor.

I agree replace the master cylinder, the rubber cones on the inside are gone and when you push the brake they force the fluid in the lines to stop. When the cones are gone and youpush the brake the fluid does not go into the line it just goes around the cones. They used to rebuild the easily and you could probably get a rebuild kit but sine the cylinder is made of aluminum it usually pits on the inside and has to be honed. esier to replace the whole cylinder. But know what you are doing, or you could make a mess of it all.
