Red face rear main leak

Good afternoon all, the new 2000 F150 with a 4.6 has a leak in the rear main. Is this a common problem for thoes engines?? As when I looked at quite a few that were on the lots they all had a rear main leak??

Since I am going to change it is there any thing else I need to change when I pull the tranny and tranfer since I am there (you know other common problems)??

Looks like a bummer to do but is there any tid bits I should know when I do the job or is it the same as any ther vehicle.

Thanks in advance
Lance

Rear main seal leaks on these aren't common....at least where I am.
A more common problem is a head gasket leak. The gasket usually leaks on the passenger's side. Oil runs down onto the starter and oil pan area.
Replacing the seal is a pretty straight forward job.

Thanks for the info, maybe it's this area CO. any way sounds like a fun way to spend a Saturday, just didn't want to get cought flat pfooted and needing something. I'll look out for that head gasket leak when I looked earlier the only leak was the rear main. a little oil from the valve cover.
