Help!

help me please i haveing trouble with my 1993 f 150 lighting 5.8 litter. i just got my new engine in it about 4 months ago and i haveing a problem thats got me flustered. i was takeing my girlfriend out friday to a nice dinner and a movie and before i was gonna go i went to fill up my gas for the hour drive ahead of us. i took and filled up both my tanks and on my way home i switched from my back tank to my froint tank sence the back tank return vaulve flows into the front tank so i switched tanks and it backfired twice and then ran like crap for a min. or two so i switched back to the back tank and it coninued to run like crap for a few more seconds and then got back sounding right. well to say the least i mader it home took a shower and got ready to go to the movies and dinner and it wouldnt start. so i tried everythging i know battierys and such. put starting fluid in it and it started up for the few seconds of either that was in it then died so that takes it down to a problem with fuel. and it cant be the pumps in my fuel tank because there are two of them one in each tank and either dont work no broke lines what else do yall think it could be? thank you from joseph
