Hail Damage

Well I'm sorry to report that a few weeks ago we were hit with a large hail storm where I live that dented the crap out of my 04 Lariat. The insurance company came out right away and did an estimate for around $1100. I took my truck into a body shop that specializes in dent removal and the guy thats owns it told me that he didnt do it himself but has a person come in and do it, so I set up an appointment for Monday. However, he told me that he feels its unlikely they will be able to pop the dents out of my hood because its aluminum? Is this true? Also the pieces that run between the front and rear doors (I thought they were plastic) he tells me that those are aluminum as well and will have to be replaced totally.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I was unaware that the hoods were aluminum and I would have bet the bank that those door pieces were plastic.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

i am not sure about the hood, but i have read on this forum and others that the pillar pieces between the front and rear doors are a tin-like material.... the person who posted this changed out their 05 matt black pillars with 04 black glossy pillars.... he descrbed it as being a tin-like material that once removed cannot be put back in...... you have to buy new ones to put in....

The hoods are aluminum. A dealer near me had a couple of new Lariats-loaded 4x4 SCrews with moonroofs-tranfered in from somewhere that had an apocolyptic hailstorm. Never seen worse, beat up so bad that every bit of glass was broken and the paint had come off the hood at each dent. Bare aluminum. Those trucks were a sad sight. Sorry about yours, jmagical. Good luck!

jmagical, Sorry to hear about the damage. It must have really came down hard.Anyway, this may be a good time to consider a aftermarket hood with scoops etc. That is if you are into that sort of thing.Good Luck!

I had some hail damage also, although minor. The hail was barely dime size but caused some dents on the hood and nowhere else.

This hail storm was the worst I have ever seen. It tore shutters off people's houses and ruined siding on some others. Windshields were busted out and windows of people's homes as well. I managed to grab some off the porch and it was every bit the size of a baseball. I wanted to cry as i sat there and watched my truck take a beating.

I have had some people tell me that a dent removal place will take it right out, but this body shop guy seems to disagree.

Anyone had any luck with getting those dents taken out?

Thanks,

The "Dent King" or whatever it is called may work. However, if you have insurance I would let a professional body shop do the work.Good Luck!
