Flat towing question.

Flat towing question.
I just purchased a tow bar to to our toy (Suzuki Samuri) to the Bloomsburg, PA 4X4 nationals. I have always towed using a trailer before and was wondering if I need to secure the steering wheel in the towed vehicle or let it free. Does anyone else flat tow a second vehicle? I know I have to disconnect the rear drive shaft but I am unsure about the steering wheel. I am towing with an 03 F-250 V-10.

I towed a '67 MGBGT home this way once. Wasn't sure about the steering wheel either. We tied it down, but in the first block knew that this was a mistake. The MG wanted to slide across the tow vehicle and would have eventually worked itself right off the tow bar. Untied the steering wheel, and had no problems. Mind you this was a rented tow bar, and it happened around 1978.

I tow my '02 S'crew behind my motor home and I leave the key in the "acc" position, to unlock the steering wheel. I have installed a drive shaft disconnect, so I leave the tranny in "Park". I have pulled it from Texas to Washington a couple of times w/o any problem. Be warned though (you probably already know it), backing up with a "tow bar" is not recommended. Good luck!
