cab/frame compatability, what do i gotta do?

i have a 77 shortbed single cab with a decent front clip, fair cab, and no bed. i have a buddy who has several nice 67-72 cabs, clips, grills, shortbeds, etc. he has no 4x4s. i luckily have a 390 4spd 4x4, pb, ps, etc and i would like to know what is different in the two cabs, clips, etc incase i am wantin to do some swapping to the 67-72 body. which i really want.

the cab and clip should be a bolt on and the bed will work with a little bit of drilling. the frame rails on the later model are wider from the cab back.

anything else big i need to look out for? engine/tranny/t-case all line up the same, steering column, wiring etc? many ppl on this forum performed that? i'm pretty sure i will but i like being prepared...so i'll have the best frame/susp, with to me the best lookin body. i'm actually already using all the clutch stuff from a 71 on it and it seems to fit the same. i guess i'll need to cut the fuel door out of a wrecked 04 f-150 or somethin and mount in the 67-72 bed. sure dont like a gas tank behind the seat. one other question..what the heck should i call the truck? with that done it will be a 67-79, f-100-f-350 2wd-4wd, heh heck its already made of about 7 trucks

the vin will have to be the one on the cab youre using for title use. the suspension is the same through 79. if your going to disk brakes and power steering and such you'll need to use the brake booster and if your old truck is manual steering use the column out of the donor truck and a few of the guys here have a wiring diagram for the column swap. use as much as you can from the donor truck. there are some articles on the tank swaps too so try to do a search for those articles.

i have the power stuff on the 77 chassis already. and the behind the axle gas tank so i think i'll just take the flip open gas door off a new f-150 or stang or somethin and graft it into the quarter panel for the 67-72 bed. are the frame lengths different or anything someone at work said they thought the 73-79 frame might be a couple inches longer, once again for singlecab shortbed

In 1973 Ford added 4in to the rear of the cab behind the rear cab mounts. This stretched the wheelbase and the chassis. All 2wd from 65 to 79 are bolthole exchange for cab & front clip. Not sure on first year but 4wd soon fit the same bolt pattern.

Bolt the bump to your chassis, you will have to adjust in the bed area to make things line up.

Hi John, found out this was an old post after replying.

Do you happen to know if a F600 cab will work on a F100 frame?? Picked one up yesterday and was searching to see if anyone else has tried it.

VIN F61CEJ51099 from registration found in glove box . Sticker on pillar is unreadable.

I checked these. Roof, doors, cowl are the same. F100-F750. Firewall is different. F100/350 is one and F500/750 is another.

Thanks for checking. Gives me a lot to think about. Still, I can use a lot of parts for my 70.

Back in the day there were no part numbers for "complete" cabs. We parts guys filled out a form for Ford with info they needed and that form was turned in to Ford. Ah, the good ol' days. That is why I looked up individule parts yesterday.

When it stops raining, I'm going to take the front clip off and see how the Pick up fenders look on it, or even if they will fit.
