01 7.3 Jerks and Bucks

I have a 01 7.3 Auto 4X4, with 205,000 miles, over the last 30,000 or so miles it has gotten progressively worst at Bucking or Jerking. It does this anywhere from 30 mph to 65 mph. The higher the RPM the less you can feel it! What could be causing this? In the last 2,000 miles I have had the HPOP replaced (o-rings blew out) and a BTS tranny installed. I did not replace these thinking it would solve this problem. Over that same 30,000 miles, what I believe some people call Fuel Crackle has also been happening. Could (Crackle) be causing this? Planning on in tank fuel return mod!! Maybe the CPS, Speed sensor or the TPS!!

Thanks for any help!!

My 01 does the same thing. I just bought it with 92,000 miles on it. It now has 95K.

Does your problem come and go? My truck runs fine sometimes, and like garbage the rest of the time. My symptoms also go away when I engage cruise control.

Very interested to see what you have already tried and what you find out.

Good luck.

I haven't tried anything really yet. "SeaFoam" made it worst! I was told by the Diesel tech at the dealership that the tank pick-up had a screen that sometimes cloged up and would cause this.
Thinking about an ITP Complete fuel System upgrade Kit!!

are these diveability complaits about engine skipping or in the trans??

i realize that the trans is newer but, if the VSS is messed up it will shift irratically. just a thought w/out all the facts!!
any DTC'S???

It feels like the Motor skipping but it could be the VSS. Tach RPMs don't fall, it is so brief I don't think it would. What the heck is VSS?

vehicle speed sensor. it is ussually in the pumpkin and very prone to failure on the mules! like 30-40 from ford the stealer we use keeps like a dozen in stock!! if that tells you anything.

it can be checked w/ a scan tool.

I took it to the dealer about 2 weeks ago, for first time!! The trucks never had any engine codes and only two at all those had something to do with the T/C and it's electronics!

well there you go. the TC lock up may be your problem. on older GM's we used to unplug them for this issue. people complain of a skip after getting off the highway. or sometimes they may even stall as a stick would if it were still in gear. i would have a tranny guy look @ it for you. this is where i would start. my buddy had his trans done a few months ago and there was an updated solenoid and TC solenoid for his 97 psd.

I had a similar problem with my 01. I replaced the CPS and it has ran great since. I live in the Ozarks so using the cruise is not going to happen much. My 01 would buck between 50 and 65 mph. good luck

Hmmmm, checked your throttle assembly? If it runs great with the cruise on and your foot off the accelorator I would look there.
